About the Event

Suitland Parkway Volunteer Day

Saturday, February 7 | 10:30 am–1:00 pm

Suitland Parkway (Washington, DC)

Join Ward 8 Woods Conservancy for a hands-on service day along Suitland Parkway, one of DC’s most overlooked green corridors and a vital buffer between busy commuter routes and Southeast DC neighborhoods.

Use public or active transportation to get there, then spend the morning giving back to the land: removing trash, cutting invasive vines, saving trees, and helping restore more than 300 acres of forested hillside that protect nearby communities from roadway noise and pollution. Since 2018, volunteers have removed over 300 tons of trash and freed more than 1,000 trees—and there’s still important work to do.

All tools, gloves, and supplies are provided. Just bring a water bottle and wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Community service hours can be documented upon request.

This is a perfect event to earn a TranspoBINGO square: move through the city without a car, connect with neighbors, and help make the board better for everyone.
